Delete your account
You can delete your Sandcastles account at any time, and take everything in it with you. No form to fight, no "are you sure" maze.
From inside the app fastest
- Click the castle in your menu bar.
- Open Settings (the gear).
- Scroll to Delete account → Delete my account.
- Confirm. It happens immediately, on this Mac and on our servers.
By email
Already uninstalled, or can't sign in? Write to us and we'll do it for you.
Send it from the address on the account if you can — it's the quickest way for us to be sure it's you. We'll confirm within 30 days, and usually much sooner.
What gets deleted
- Your profile — name, @handle, birthday, email, and the account itself
- Your coastline: castles, worlds, shells and pearls, streaks and daily goals
- Your focus history and session records held on our servers
- Your friendships, friend requests, and invite codes
- Coves you own, and your membership in everyone else's
- Co-focus sessions, cheers you sent, and your contributions to shared streaks
- Anything stored locally on your Mac, when you delete from inside the app
Deleting from inside the app also wipes the local files on your Mac. If you delete by email, drag Sandcastles to the Trash afterwards to clear what's stored on the machine.
What we keep, and why
Deletion means deletion. These are the narrow exceptions — each one is something we're required to keep or something that protects other people.
- Safety reports
- If someone reported your account — or you reported someone else's — that report stays, with your account no longer named on it. Otherwise deleting an account would erase the record of what it did.
- A one-way hash of your email, if you had unsubscribed
- Anti-spam law requires us to keep honouring an opt-out. We can't do that if we forget you asked, so we keep a scrambled fingerprint of the address — enough to never email it again, not enough to read it.
- Encrypted database backups
- Backups are snapshots we can't reach into and edit. Your data ages out of them on our provider's rolling schedule, within 30 days.
- Anything a law or a legal order requires us to hold
- Rare, and we'd tell you where we're allowed to. Sandcastles takes no payments today, so there are no invoices or tax records to keep.
Some things simply aren't ours to delete: a friend's own focus history still shows the sessions you did together, and a cove someone else owns keeps existing after you leave it. Your name comes off both.
