Focus should feel calm, not surveilled. Here's exactly what Sandcastle does and doesn't do ~ in plain language, no fine print.
No screen reading
Your focus buddy never reads your screen, your documents, or your messages.
No selling your data
No ads, no data brokers, no tracking-for-profit. Ever.
Nothing raw shared
No raw app or site history is shared with friends.
How it actually works
The short version
What it uses to tell focus
To know whether you're with your task, Sandcastle looks at the name of the app or website that's active — like "VS Code" or "docs.google.com". That's it. It never reads the contents of your screen, files, or messages.
What stays on your Mac
Your raw activity, the task names you type, and your detailed focus history live locally on your Mac. They're yours — they aren't uploaded just to use the app.
If you build with friends
Coves and friends are opt-in. When you choose to connect, Sandcastle syncs only a gentle, privacy-filtered summary — coarse things like a streak or focused-minutes — never your raw app/site history or task details.
Sandcastle is in private beta, so some details may evolve as we build ~ but the principle won't: your focus stays yours.
